Welcome to the Introduction to Coaching and Mentoring - contextualised for the MENA region course. This online self-study course has been specifically designed to help you develop your understanding of coaching and mentoring and the benefits of using them when working in an emergency response. With this course and accompanying toolkit, you will be able to recognise how to structure and carry out an effective coaching or mentoring session.

This course uses video and scenarios to help you to build and strengthen your understanding of how to put coaching and mentoring skills effectively into practice.

This course is also available in English (for global audience)French, Spanish and Arabic.

Is this course for me?
Yes, definitely! You might be a technical specialist (e.g. nutritionist, health adviser, education manager) who is looking for a more effective way to impart knowledge to others and build their skills. You might be a manager keen to support individuals in your team. Part of your role may be to develop others or you may have been approached to be a coach and mentor within your organisation or network. This course will give you the building blocks you need to do this with confidence.

  • Be able to hold a coaching and mentoring session
  • Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach used and identify how to improve it
  • Be able to implement the coaching/mentoring phases - set up (contracting), establish the relationship, structure conversations, review the process
  • Have the confidence to practise the skills
  • Be prepared to coach
  • Be curious to improve your skills further
