Welcome to Data Responsibility Awareness Practitioner
Humanitarian organisations use personal and non-personal data to tailor programmes to the needs of vulnerable individuals and communities. Handling this data responsibly is crucial for adhering to humanitarian principles and protecting people from harm.
The course aims to increase awareness and understanding among humanitarian workers on responsible data handling. The course is designed not to be organisation-specific and can be used by local and international partners in their data responsibility efforts.
The aim is to give humanitarian workers a short bite-sized training which highlights key takeaways and enables them in a responsible approach to data processing.
The courses are available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.
It can be downloaded to be distributed offline.
Is this course for me?
The Data Responsibility Awareness Practitioner course is designed for humanitarian professionals who have roles
involving the processing of personal data or managerial oversight for
compliance. It includes the technical and legal aspects of data protection in
the context of humanitarian work.
How will I benefit from this course? Learners who will be taking this
course will be able to:
- Understand what
a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) is and its purpose
- Discuss when and
how to conduct a DPIA
- Understand the
difference between a data controller with a data processor
- Differentiate
among the types of data disclosure agreements
- Identify the
right legal basis for processing and understand the rights of data subjects
- Identify and
manage a data breach

Will I get a certificate at the end? Yes - you will be able to download a certificate once you have have completed all of the modules within the course.
