This course looks at the humanitarian sector and how it has evolved over time. It also introduces key guiding principles that are applicable to emergency response work.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand the origins of the Humanitarian Movement and the changing nature of emergency response.
  • Recognise the four core humanitarian principles and understand the reasons for principled humanitarian action.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Principles in the Red Cross Code of Conduct, who it applies to, and responsibilities that come with the code. 
Audience
This module is part of the Transforming Surge Capacity Project. It is aimed at platform roster members and those completing the training of trainers (TOT).

Duration
This module should take 1 hour or less to complete.

This course was updated in February 2017. The updated course contains some additional introductory information and information on the importance of Humanitarian Principles. The learning objectives and substantive content have not changed.
