Is this course for me?
This course is designed for individuals responding to a variety of humanitarian crises, in which an infectious disease outbreak is also occurring. Learners taking this course should have an understanding of the various WASH interventions typically used in a humanitarian response, though need not be WASH specialists; this course is applicable for all humanitarian responders.

How will I benefit from this course?
On completion of this course you will be able to:
  • Describe three infectious disease transmission routes typically encountered in humanitarian settings, and explain the role of WASH interventions in preventing, mitigating, and breaking these transmission routes;
  • Explain how to implement critical WASH interventions—including safe and adequate water supply and waste disposal management—in a community and densely populated setting, in a health care facility and in a school environment;

  • Recognize the importance of enhancing rapid changes in community attitudes and behavior towards sanitation and hygiene during an infectious disease outbreak, and; 

  • Describe how to integrate WASH interventions in an infectious disease outbreak with other key thematic sectors, to ensure a holistic and human-centered response.
