Coaching techniques have recognized value for empowering and creating resilient approaches to leading people and teams, particularly in times of crisis and transformation. The new OCHA Coaching Skills for Manager Programme focuses on developing effective leadership skills, styles and practices that through coaching empowers individuals, strengthens teamwork and creates a collaborative and harmonious work culture in OCHA. It provides managers with coaching skills to effectively engage with staff and teams to optimize performance, address conflict, support talent growth and wider organizational reforms. In the context of Covid-19 and remote management, coaching can be particularly effective in enabling positive and supportive working relationships that drive collaboration and results.

The programme is designed as a three months journey that will equip participants with knowledge in foundational coaching concepts, tools and models along with opportunities to apply the learning and receive feedback. The structure and requirements have been designed to enable learning in micro chunks with both self-directed and facilitator led sessions which maximize experience sharing and building community.

Programme elements:

  1. Pre work module outlining concepts, tools and practices and building a common baseline of knowledge. Access to a wider online system wide repository of resources on coaching.
  2. Core Learning Webinar Series of five, 90-minute sessions focused on transferring expert knowledge and space to practice.
  3. Two Action Learning Sets where participants go deeper into the application of coaching, share experience and receive feedback from both their peers and the facilitator.
