Unit 2 looks at the common barriers to education in emergencies, how these can be analyzed and different ways of considering access in order to overcome these.

This course unit is primarily designed for education in emergencies (EiE) or education practitioners to ensure they have a good understanding of common barriers to education in emergencies and the overarching aims to overcome these. It may also serve as a useful resource for those working in other areas but wanting to improve their understanding of the sector by diving into this intermediate-level content. This unit underpins the subsequent EiE Online units but can also be used as a foundational pre-work for other trainings (including the EiE PDP Fundamentals course).

On completion of this course unit you will be able to:

  • List and categorise common barriers to education in emergencies
  • Identify possible EiE response components to overcomes these barriers
  • Explain the overarching aims of EiE and provide examples of response components which contribute to realising these
