Levels of Humanitarian Experience

Entry Level

Anyone seeking basic knowledge, skills and competencies required to operate effectively within the humanitarian sector. Represents anyone relatively new (approx. 0-5 years’ experience) to the humanitarian sector, and/or is looking to embark upon a humanitarian career.

Entry/Mid-Level

Courses suitable for both individuals relatively new to the humanitarian sector and individuals who have mid-level experience in the humanitarian sector.

Mid-Level

Anyone who manages at least one aspect of a humanitarian response (i.e. project manager, finance manager, logistics manager), including the scale up and management of rapid and large scale emergency responses. Represents anyone with mid-level (approx. 5-10 years’) experience in the humanitarian sector, and anyone who consistently manages relationships with partners local government, the UN clusters, and/or international surge teams.

Mid/Senior Level

Courses suitable for both individuals who have mid-level experience  and those with extensive experience in the humanitarian sector.

Senior Level

Anyone with extensive (10 years +) experience in the humanitarian sector, and currently in a senior management, leadership or strategic decision making position. Should have significant experience of managing people, processes and/or budgets in an emergency response setting.
