Welcome to Impact Evaluation Fundamentals!

In this 1-hour course, you will learn the fundamentals of impact evaluation and explore how it fits into the broader monitoring and evaluation (M&E) landscape. You'll learn to define and identify valid counterfactuals and discover different categories of impact evaluation designs as well as gain valuable insights that will help you navigate the complexities of impact evaluation in humanitarian contexts. Whether you're new to impact evaluation or looking to refresh your knowledge, this course will provide you with a strong foundation to support evidence-based decision making in humanitarian programs. This course is the first in a two-part series developed by The Humanitarian Assistance Evidence Cycle (HAEC). 

	Is this course for me?
	This course was designed for those who have the following knowledge and interests: Basic understanding of humanitarian contexts and operations: This will help you relate the concepts to your work environment and understand the practical applications of impact evaluation in humanitarian settings. Familiarity with general M&E terminology: While not mandatory, some prior exposure to M&E principles and practices will provide a foundational understanding that can be built upon during the course. Interest in evidence-based program improvement: A genuine interest in understanding how to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of humanitarian programs through evidence-based methods will help you engage more deeply with the course material.
	How will I benefit from this course?
	You can benefit in many ways, depending on your situation. Here are some examples: better supporting partners doing impact evaluation work in the field; more effectively collaborating with researchers on impact evaluations; assisting in the planning, implementation, and utilization of impact evaluations; interpreting and communicating research findings clearly to stakeholders; and advocating for evidence-based decision making using impact evaluation results.
