This course unit is part of the full Education in Emergencies (EiE) Online pathway endorsed by INEEThis course will look at how EiE programmes can incorporate activities to actively tackle the potential psychological and emotional distress experienced by teachers and students in emergency situations.

This course unit is primarily designed for education in emergencies (EiE) or education practitioners to ensure they have a good understanding of this essential aspect of MHPSS terminology, concepts and approaches for integration into EiE. This course unit connects with other EiE Online course units but can also be used as a standalone learning product.

 How will I benefit from this course?

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Define and describe mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and social and emotional learning (SEL) as it relates to education in emergencies programming
  • Identify the role of teachers and education personnel in providing MHPSS and SEL activities within education settings
  • Identify resources, guidance and tools that can be used to support teachers and education personnel to integrate MHPSS and SEL into education in emergencies programming
  • Explain the importance of working across sectors to ensure a coordinated MHPSS response for children, teachers, education personnel and families
