This course is primarily designed for education in emergencies (EiE) or education practitioners to ensure they have a good understanding of the foundations of EiE on which to build their knowledge of other more technical topic areas. It may also serve as a useful resource for those working in other areas but wanting to improve their understanding of the sector by diving into this intermediate-level content. This unit connects with other EiE Online units but can also be used as a standalone piece of learning.

 How will I benefit from this course?
On completion of this course you will be able to:
  • Describe key terms and concepts related to an intersectional integration of gender equality into EiE programming and use them to explain the different gender-based barriers faced by girls, boys, women, and men to education in emergencies.
  • Name key tools for integrating gender equality into EiE and identify essential actions to integrate gender equality across all aspects of the Humanitarian Programme Cycle.
  • Explain the process of analyzing and evaluating gender and other identity-based barriers in accessing education in emergencies, and identify key tools to support this process.
  • Identify potential strategies to fulfil the humanitarian mandate to prevent, mitigate, and respond to instances of Gender-based Violence (GBV) in all humanitarian programming, including EiE.
