Unit 3 looks at the concept of quality education in the context of emergencies, the frameworks for analysing and promoting it (especially INEE) and the challenges of achieving it in these settings. As integration is so important to ensuring quality learning environment for children in emergencies, this unit ends by looking at this approach.

 Is this course unit for me?

This course unit is primarily designed for education in emergencies (EiE) or education practitioners to ensure they have a good understanding of quality education  emergencies and the key frameworks and approaches for promoting this. It may also serve as a useful resource for those working in other areas but wanting to improve their understanding of the sector by diving into this intermediate-level content. This unit underpins the subsequent EiE Online units but can also be used as a foundational pre-work for other trainings (including the EiE PDP Fundamentals course).

On completion of this course unit you will be able to:

  • Describe quality education as a holistic concept and list some of the components that contribute to its realisation 
  • Identify the different domains of the INEE Minimum Standards and some of the guidance available to support the application of these 
  • Explain the relationship between quality education in emergencies and integrated programming and identify other sectors and actors needed to work with to achieve this.
