Humanitarian organisations are present in increasingly complex environmentsParties to conflict actively deny humanitarians access to population in need in areas they control and attacks against humanitarian workers are growing in number. Ongoing fighting and limitations to population movements have also lefvulnerable populations without the opportunity to seek refuge and access humanitarian aid. Providing humanitarian assistance and contributing to the protection of conflict and displacement affected populations is therefore more and more challenging.

To be able to stay and deliver aid to the people that need it most, it is essential for humanitarians to understand the context in which they operate, and the various challenges they might encounter. This course gives an overview of what humanitarian access is and outlines some of the common dilemmas humanitarians face in the field

After successful completion of the course, you will be equipped with basic tools that will enable you to carry out an analysis of the access context, as well identify which actors and factors affect access.
