Module 1 - Tackling child marriage
This self paced module will help you address child marriage in your setting by centring your programming on the needs and realities of adolescent girls. It will inform you about how to unpack the nuances and complexity of child marriage in your context, to deliver more impactful programming in line with humanitarian standards.
This module is part a larger Learning Series to Tackle Child Marriage in Crisis and Forced Displacement Settings developed jointly by UNHCR and Plan International and approved by the Alliance.
This Learning Series responds to key challenges and gaps in knowledge and capacity as identified by country teams. The content has developed based on piloting throughout 2021-2023.
There are currently three modules in the Learning Series available in English and French:
-
The adolescent girl-responsive approach to child marriage programming
-
Supporting married girls and unmarried girls at risk of child marriage in case management
-
Co-designing child marriage prevention strategies with girls and their community
These modules have been developed for self-guided learning or as part of a group study guided by a technical facilitator. If you are interested to set up a study group, please contact us.
Modules can be taken in any order, but it is recommended to start with the Module 1 on the adolescent girl-responsive approach to child marriage programming in order to ensure a strong foundational knowledge of the topic and the guiding theory behind the other technical modules.

Is this course for me? |
|---|---|
|
This learning module was developed with child protection and gender-based violence programme staff in mind. However, it is also highly relevant for staff working in other sectors, such as education, health and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), or livelihoods or staff using cash and voucher assistance as a modality, given their contribution to child marriage risk mitigation and the recommended approach to use multisectoral programming to address child marriage across the humanitarian response. |
