This curriculum includes a 4-hour course and follow-up test which focuses on the role of Country of Origin Information (COI) in refugee status determination (RSD) and the application of quality standards for COI in RSD procedures. Learners will be guided through a case study that will illustrate and discuss the challenges faced when researching and using COI in RSD procedures. The assessment test has a passing score of 70%. The curriculum will show completion in the learner’s transcript once the course is completed and there is a passing score on the test.

Objectives:

 - Explain in detail the role of Country of Origin Information (COI) in Refugee Status Determination procedures

 - Apply COI research skills, in particular using online search tools and COI databases

 - Apply the principles for assessing COI sources.
