In 2015 the Start Network launched a three-year Transforming Surge Capacity (TSC) project.

Financed by the UK Department for International Development’s (DFID) Disaster and Emergencies Preparedness Programme (DEPP), the project has seen extensive collaborative engagement by eleven UK-based aid agencies, to promote more efficient, collaborative and localised emergency response.

Through a multi-agency collaborative process, the TSC project developed a training curriculum for surge staff.

Training modules available:

 Learning Objectives

The 8 modules, plus Introduction to Mindfulness package, focus on developing behavioural skills of participants, and place the role of ‘people’ at the centre of the training. They have been used internally by the TSC project and from 20 November 2017 are open source for use by the wider humanitarian sector.

The materials can be used either as a full 5-day face to face curriculum, or as stand-alone modules which can be integrated into existing agency training plans. All materials can be downloaded in MSWord in order to allow for adaptation.
